Autograph letter signed with initials : place not specified, to William Allingham, Tuesday [1855 Aug. 21].

Expressing surprise that Allingham had not heard about Millais's marriage [to Effie Gray], noting that "it was in the papers -- the Leader slipped it in somehow among the Deaths!" Mentioning a "stupid enough notices of The Music Master &c., in the Athenaeum;" asking for his opinion of Tennyson's Maud, noting that although "much of it is lovely" he is "disappointed in it" and critiquing the poem. With a postscript noting that he has re-opened the letter to enclose (not present and not identified) a "little excitement."
